TEAK WOOD
Teakwood is used throughout the world as lumber in shipbuilding and the construction of furniture; outdoor teak furniture or garden products has been known to resist the attacks of insects and the corrosive effects of weather for hundreds of years. Because of its durability and strength teakwood is one of the most expensive woods.

Teak is easily worked and has natural oils that make it suitable for use in exposed locations, where it is durable even when not treated with oil or varnish. Teak cut from old trees grown slowly in natural forests is more durable and harder; Teak from young trees grown in plantations is more prone to splitting and water damage.

Teak is used extensively in many countries to make doors and window frames, furniture and columns and beams in Balinese type houses. It is very resistant to the attack of termites. Teak is s recognized for its durability and stability under severe climatic conditions. These qualities, plus high quality construction guarantee long life even when left permanently outdoors.

The products of teak wood especially furniture are categorized into outdoor and indoor uses. Both interior and exterior teak wood furniture are finished in several ways, including totally natural, oiled, sealed, and varnished. Since interior teak gets less abuse than exterior, maintenance is generally is less demanding. Like any other material, wood requires the proper maintenance to retain is beauty.

RATTAN
Rattans are climbing palms that provide the raw material for the cane-furniture industry. Sometimes confused with bamboo, canes can usually be distinguished because they are solid, whereas bamboos are almost always hollow. Although there are some climbing palms in the New World, the true rattans are restricted to the Old World tropics and subtropics. They are particularly abundant in South-east Asia and the Malay Archipelago.

Rattans have long and very flexible stems that need support. In favourable conditions some species will grow to very great lengths. The longest cane ever recorded was over 175 m long. Some species are single-stemmed while others are multi-stemmed, single-stemmed species providing a single harvest while the multi-stemmed species can be harvested sustainably.
Surrounding the stem are sheathing leaf bases which are nearly always fiercely spiny, the spines sometimes arranged in neat rows and interlocking to form galleries in which ants make their nests, providing extra protection to an already well protected plant.

Rattans are used for a very wide range of purposes, the most important being in the manufacture of baskets, mats and furniture. Bali rattan furniture has become one the most exported products to many countries in the world. Most of the products exported are sofa set for indoor. Many of the rattan furniture are combined with bamboo and seagrass to get a better design and to get different colours, wood are used for the legs of the chairs and sofa to get a better construction.
